Hi Everyone!
Welcome back to my blog! This week in ICT a lot of fun things happened. Digital story telling is something that my class has been waiting to hear about in our English class as it is an assignment that we are required to do. Unfortunately we all had no idea what it was and felt like we never would until ICT class this week. It was great, what better way to learn about digital story telling than from your ICT professor who would know the technology part of it best! A picture is worth a thousand words right? Well in our Animoto videos they are. We used a website called animoto.com that allowed us to create slide shows of our personal pictures accompanied by a background and music playing. It was fun to view our class members videos of babies and engagement photos. I made my video of pictures that my friends and I took when we went to Souris for Scarecrow days. This is a great site and now not only can I digitally tell a story I can share it with all of my friends and trust me we have a lot of pictures! This is a website that would also be great to use with students in the classroom. It is great that technology can bring together learning from two different classes so that we can gain a better understanding of the concept from two different professors and their specialties.
On Thursday this week we had a guest speaker, John Finch, come and talk to us about Literacy with ICT. It was interesting to hear what he had to say and listen to all of the methods he had to share with us. I enjoyed his stories of past students that he had and his sense of humor made it easy to keep engaged in what he was talking about. Some of what he talked about is technology as our future and how far it has come. I agree with this, technology is our future. More and more we are seeing schools with laptops, iPads, and even teachers allowing students to bring their smart phones to school, some even requiring it. It is important for us as teachers to keep up with our future students in this field and although this is a struggle for me I am committed to learning and incorporating new technology into my classroom.

Technology Anxiety
Hi Everyone!
This weeks blog has been really hard for me to write. In ICT we were introduced to a new task, to create a website. As soon as I heard this my technology anxiety set in. For the first couple of days we had to work on the website in class I did not get very far, the third day I went for lunch instead. Over the weekend I received an e-mail from Weebly, the website I am using to create my website. In this e-mail was a message telling me exactly how long it had been since the last time I had logged onto my site, down to the minute. The reassuring message that came with this reminder told me that my website missed me, to take a deep breath, and that everything was going to be alright and actually made a difference in how I felt toward this task. After that I decided to give it another try with an open mind. Finally I got momentum and ended up getting some work done on it slowly but surely. It is amazing that technology can give someone such anxiety and frustration and also give support and reassurance all at the same time.
Since the beginning of this term, having the topic of technology in the back of my mind I have began to notice how I use it in my life more and more. In school at home and almost every other place I go technology is present. Creating a website is something I did not ever think I would do. Now that I have worked past the initial frustration and fear I am glad that I did and will add my website to the list of things learned this term and something that I hope to one day incorporate into my classroom in the future.

What I Know About Technology...
Hi Everyone!
Today I have been trying very hard to think of something that I could write on here to give you an idea of how much I know about technology in general. My conclusion; I know that I do not know a lot. What I do know is how important technology has become in my life over the last few years. Three years ago I met my boyfriend who was about to begin his Bachelor of Education degree at the University College of the North in The Pas, Manitoba, I was staying in Brandon. For two years we communicated primarily through text messages, phone calls, and Face Time but we were still able to see each other often. This past year he graduated and took his first teaching job in Kuwait, he left in August of 2013 and will return in June 2014. I now know for sure how much I have come to appreciate technology. If we had been in this situation years ago we would have had to rely on written letters as a form of communication, it would have taken months to have a conversation! It truly boggles my mind how many different ways I can communicate with him as if he is in the same room. Text message, email, Face Time, and Skype are all ways that we still communicate with each other but there are now apps you can get made just for couples or games that you can play together online the possibilities seem endless. I have learned so much from his experience in Kuwait. The stories he tells me, the pictures he shows me from the places he has traveled and the culture he experiences.
In my ICT class we were assigned to read Connected from the Start: Global Learning in the Primary Grades written by Kathy Cassidy who is a Canadian grade one teacher. As I began to read the first couple of chapters I realized that the learning I have been doing through my relationship is the same kind of learning that Kathy does with her students. By talking to children in other classrooms all over the world Kathy's students get to experience an incredible amount of new and unexpected learning! This text really clicked with me and now when I say "technology in the classroom" I visualize something completely different then I did even a week ago. There are so many things we can do with technology in the classroom and I am looking forward to learning more!

My First Blog!
Hi Everyone!
My name is Miss Berg and I am a first time blogger. I am from Brandon Manitoba and I am currently enrolled in my first year of the Bachelor of Education program at Brandon University. Previously, I have earned my Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology, a minor in History, and Native Studies as a teachable subject. When I am not busy with school I work for the Brandon School Division as a substitute Educational Assistant. I am also very dedicated to my job at the YMCA Before and After school programs and Youth programs. As a broke student I also try to pick up odd jobs like house/dog sitting and babysitting as often as I can. In my spare time I love to spend time with my family and friends. My hobbies include singing and travelling.
This term at school I am taking Professional Teacher, English Language Arts Across the Curriculum, Child Development and a Using Information and Communication Technology in Education (ICT) course. In my ICT course we are required to do a final summative project that reflects our learning about technology, I am writing this blog for mine. The reason I decided to share my learning about technology in education on a blog is because I have insecurities about using and learning about technology, and I know that each week I will be learning something new. It will be interesting to look back six weeks from now and see the progress I have made.
The goal I am setting for myself is to shed my fear of technology and become a teacher who is confident in using and sharing technology in my classroom.
